Q: What kinds of volunteer opportunities are there for the JCC Maccabi Games?
A: There are a number of ways in which you can help. During the week of the Games, some example of the kind of help we need are: airport greeters, bus chaperones, credentials preparers, score keepers, time keepers, equipment set-up, meal set-up, service and clean-up, snack and beverage distribution, water and ice distribution, serve as gatekeeper at an event or venue, check credentials for entry, provide traffic control (foot traffic), provide basic event information to spectators, chaperones for evening activities, etc.

We also need volunteers to help with preparations in the months leading up to the Games including: public relations, copywriting, graphic design, publications management, and fundraising.

Q: What if I am interested in volunteering, but I don’t know my schedule yet?
A: That is O.K. You will be able to update your availability on your registration form whenever there is a change. We will have many opportunities for involvement with varying time commitments.

Q: Is it important that I know a lot about sports to volunteer or do you have non-sports volunteer positions?
A: Volunteers are needed in multiple areas from food service to evening events.

Q: I plan to volunteer, but do you offer babysitting for my children?
A: No. We will not have babysitting services available; however we can work around your schedule when determining your shifts.

Q: Do I need to be Jewish or a member of the JCC to volunteer?
A: No. The entire community is invited to take part in the Games, although the athletes who participate need to be Jewish.

Q: I do not have a child participating in the Games, can I still volunteer?
A: Yes. Everyone in the entire Westchester community is encouraged to get involved.

Q: Can my teenagers volunteer?
A: Teens ages 12-16 may participate as an athlete for Team Westcheser. Teens 17–20 can volunteer and also be a part of the JCC Maccabi Alumni Club.

Q: I am only available to drive my athletes for part of the week, can I still be a host family?
A: Yes. But you are responsible for making carpooling arrangements with another host family for your visiting athletes.

Q: If my child is playing in a sport, can I volunteer during that time?
A: We do not recommend that you volunteer when your child is competing in an event, because you most likely will want to support your child and attend the event in which he/she is participating. There will be many opportunities for you to volunteer when your child is not competing.

Q: I am available on a limited basis, perhaps only one day during the games, is that ok?
A: Yes. We will need many volunteers and any availability is great.

Q: Do I need to wear a certain uniform to volunteer?
A: Yes. We will provide you with a complimentary volunteer t-shirt which should be worn whenever you are working a volunteer shift.

Q: Will I be able to drive to the venue where I am working?
A: Yes. Parking should be available at all venues; and volunteers will receive appropriate parking information for each venue.

Q: If I am not available during the week of the Games, can I still help?
A: Absolutely! We are always looking for volunteers to assist in the planning of the Games.

Host Families will be asked to attend ONE mandatory orientation this summer – Click here for meeting schedule. For more information about hosting (or if you would like to join the Housing Committee)
